While a number of upscale hotels in Helena serve as regular venues for weddings, for a more regional touch you may want to consider getting married on one of several cattle ranches, or else in a luxury camp in the forest, or on the Gates of the Mountains pier. The most popular site for weddings in Helena for a number of years has been The Lakeside Ranch, located eight miles outside of Helena. It is a privately owned, beautifully landscaped ranch on the shore of Hauser Lake, a 3,200 acre reservoir on the Missouri River. Lakeside Ranch offers three-day access packages for weddings.
For $3,000 you receive access to the ranch for three days, including the preparations the day before, the rehearsal and inner, and the full day of the wedding. A historic log cabin provides the groom and groomsmen with space for their preparation. The setting includes a 20’ x 40’ tent, chairs and tables for 100 guests, and outdoor restroom facilities. For an additional $250 you can reserve the 12’ x 16’ dance floor.
The 4-R Ranch and Cattle Company
This working ranch is an up and coming contender for fabulous wedding venues in Helena. The ranch is situated in a high mountain meadow, with the breathtaking Elkhorn Mountains as backdrop. Sunsets over the Helena Valley are memorable. One of the 2014 couples married at the 4-R Ranch and Cattle Company were featured on the cover of the Spring 2015 issue of Rocky Mountain Bride Magazine. One highlight of the ranch is ‘The Grove,’ an outdoor sanctuary surrounded by pastoral beauty, and ‘with a redwood pergola amid the evergreens for the exchange of vows. Another is ‘The Hayfield,’ where you can hold your reception under the stars.
Located just a few miles out of Helena, this is no longer a working ranch but is a favorite venue for weddings in the Helena area. The enormous antique red barn, which holds 400 people, forms the centerpiece of the ranch has 10,000 square feet of tongue and groove flooring, food and bar service, two bathrooms, dressing rooms for both bride and groom, and old model AA truck, a custom wagon, and picturesque lighting and décor. A short walk away, across the scenic bridge, is the park filled with cottonwoods, boasting a spectacular view of the Elkhorn Mountain Range and of Prickly Pear Creek. The park includes an air-conditioned, newly remodeled pavilion.
Other memorable wedding venues near Helena include the Elkhorn View Lodge in Clancy, the Diamond M Ranch (the newest venue on this list), Gates of the Mountains (see “Kayaking Near Helena”), where the bride and groom can be married on the pier, against the backdrop of the spectacular limestone cliffs, and, for a wedding while glamping, the Resort at Paws Up (see “Planning a Trip to Helena”), with its three ‘honeymoon camps’ and other luxurious facilities.
